Thanksgiving 2014

When I was younger we had a lot of great traditions on Thanksgiving. We had a pie eating contest, we played "gobble gobble" (which is like Marco Polo but not in the water), and every year we dressed up like Pilgrims and Indians with one person being the turkey. I remember thinking it was so fun to basically have Halloween all over again, and I also remember thinking it was super lame when I was a teenager. In fact I think we stopped doing it once everyone was a moody teenager & too cool for it.

Good news my friends.
When you get older you don't care so much about being cool. You care about laughing and having fun and creating memories. And thats why this year we decided to bring back the dressing up for thanksgiving tradition. And I'm so glad we did. No one had a bad attitude about it, everyone laughed, no one was embarrassed. well, except maybe Lucas who was wearing a girls headband on his head. It was great. And as cliche as it sounds, my mom would have been SO happy we did it.

Thanksgiving itself was wonderful too. How can anyone not like this holiday?! We had a great meal outside with family and about 50 of our closest fly friends- thats what you get when its 80 degrees on Thanksgiving, flies! Take that Snowvember.
I also gave thanks that my time without D.P came to an end. I set a goal for myself not to drink any while I was working on losing weight/getting healthy, and I'm still working on that goal, but I've reached a point where I'm ok allowing myself to have it occasionally.

My little Butterball.

It was also during our Thanksgiving meal that someone pointed out this bird outline on our window. A few weeks ago Patrick and I heard a huge loud smack or a bird but when we checked outside we didn't see one. He left his mark though...

After the meal it was time for our annual family football game: Cardinals vs. Cardinals.
Lets just say The Cardinals won.
And lets also say that I had the game winning touchdown.
Because I did.
I'm kinda impressed with how much Cardinals paraphernalia we own.

Go Cardinals!

Cheerleader/lizard chaser.

Saturday morning was our Stake 5k Turkey Trot. Pretty happy that these guys decided to run in it with me. Wish I was as fast as them! But in all fairness Mallory did train for 2 days, so.... ;)

And per Thanksgiving tradition or rather the tradition that happens whenever the boys come down to visit, Laura gave us all haircuts. She gave me some color too! I wasn't planning on cutting my hair, but the summer was not good to it and I had a lot of dead at the end. But change is good, and fun, and I'm grateful she took the time to do it. I think she gave almost everyone a haircut except little boy 2 & 3.

It was a great weekend. Lots of noise, but lots of love.

Good times good times! Definitely a Thanksgiving to remember!! I think I had more exercise Thurs-Saturday than I have had all year and for some reason I feel guilty about that. Shouldn't that time be for feasting and chillaxing??
